When he was alive, he was too big to be a Knight, but could only release his aggressive impulses by fighting. Even after death, he could not stop, and so he led other skeletons with similar unending drives to join together for a neverending battle.
The hero Roland admires these warriors, and has excitedly requested that he be buried there when he dies himself.
